This week back to work officially started my 5th year as a teacher!
I always sing the “Ohhhh, Back to School” song from Billy Madison around this time of year- Big Jon thinks it’s hilarious and that I sound just like him. One of my many talents, I know….
I truly love my students, and I love the opportunity to pour into their lives. I know they can sense how much I care about them because LOTS of my old students come back to visit, and I always love seeing their sweet faces.
That is hands down the most important aspect of teaching to me- loving on them, teaching life skills, investing in them and letting them know I care, listening to them, and showing them Jesus through my actions and attitudes. I want them to enjoy learning, and I want my classroom to be a safe and positive place for them. I want my class to be the BEST part of their day at school. I know building relationships are so important….and it is truly my desire to be a LIGHT to everyone I come into contact with at school.
These are my verses for the year and what I plan to make my prayer every morning.
“So let's not allow ourselves to get fatigued doing good. At the right time we will harvest a good crop if we don't give up, or quit. Right now, therefore, every time we get the chance, let us work for the benefit of all.” –Galatians 6:9-10
“Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. 8Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love.” – 1 John 4:7-8
“In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” –Matthew 5:16
If you are a teacher, know a teacher, have kids in school, or are just a prayer warrior, I really encourage you to pray for the upcoming school year. Pray for the students, administrators, school boards, faculties, and parents. Pray a hedge of protection, for wisdom, for peace, and for guidance. Above all, these kids need to be LOVED.
Ready for a fabulous 5th year!!
