read skimmed an article today about all of the dangers of Aspartame. Check it out here. It is pretty technical, but there is a bulleted list of symptoms caused by consuming Aspartame that is pretty eye opening.
The article said that Aspartame “appears to cause slow, silent damage in those unfortunate enough to not have immediate reactions and a reason to avoid it. It may take one year, five years, 10 years, or 40 years, but it seems to cause some reversible and some irreversible changes in health over long-term use.”
Basically, your best bet is to avoid diet drinks and “sugar-free” foods all together. The truth is they are simply replacing the sugar with another chemical that is extremely harmful to our bodies.
Aside from all the other health issues artificial sweeteners cause, weight gain is another concern. We assume because something is “diet” or “sugar free” it’s better for us and won’t add unwanted pounds, but that is simply untrue.
This article from CBS News said that “For one study, researchers at the center followed 474 diet soda drinkers, 65 to 74 years of age, for almost 10 years. They found that diet soda drinkers' waists grew 70 percent more than non-drinkers. Specifically, drinking two or more diet sodas a day busted belt sizes five times more than people who avoided the stuff entirely.” It also pointed out that "Artificial sweeteners could have the effect of triggering appetite but unlike regular sugars they don't deliver something that will squelch the appetite.”
Does this not totally make you want to clean up your diet?? I know it does for me.
